There are some jobs, such as chopping logs or removing large branches, that your garden loppers or axe just aren’t going to be able to do.
For those you need something a bit more powerful - a garden chainsaw.
This might sound a little extreme purchase but when you hear that a job that normally takes a couple of hours only takes a matter of moments I’m sure you’re going to start to be won over by the idea of a garden chainsaw.
So you decided to buy a garden chainsaw - but what do you buy?
Well there are really only two options - you can buy a petrol garden chainsaw or an electric garden chainsaw.
A petrol chainsaw is a great option if you’ve got a large garden because it means you don’t have to worry about pulling the plug out of it’s socket or need a hundred extension cables.
But there are some downsides. A petrol chainsaw is likely to noisier, heavier and need filling up a hell of a lot (in other words where you go with the chainsaw a petrol can must go too…)
So it’s best to go with an electric chainsaw? I’d say yes. An electric garden chainsaw will be both quieter and lightweight and the only negative is you have to be aware of the wire (I suggest getting a dedicated wire holder to help you with that..)
How much should I spend on a garden chainsaw?
Well that really depends on what you’re using it for. If you need a chainsaw to cut through logs or to use everyday it’s worth going for something of a high quality that’s relatively powerful. If it’s occasional use, you can lessen your budget and buy a basic model.
Personally I’d say you’re going to have to spend around £100 - £200 to get something that’s going to do the job well.
Where’s the best place to buy a chainsaw?
As you’d expect I’m going to say to buy online. The reason why is you can make huge savings. I do however recommend looking in garden centres first simply so you can feel the weight of the chainsaw and if it’s suitable for you.
Once you’ve done that head online and check out Garden Centre, Greenfingers, Argos and B&Q who offer a great online range.
