If nothing seems to ever grow well in your garden then it’s likely it’s down to the soil and not you. This doesn’t however mean you need to pack up your bags and move away. All you need to do is get some soil improver.
Soil improver may not be a familiar term to you but don’t worry you’ll soon recognise what it is and that’s because Soil improver isn’t so much a product itself but a term that covers a whole range of products and here are my top five soil improvers to turn around any garde.
1. Manure
Good old manure is one of the best soil improvers you can get. It may be hot and just a little bit smelly but it will do your plants the world of good. The best place to buy it is direct from the source but don’t apply it straight away (if it’s fresh) instead let it rot down for a couple of months.
2. Good Old Garden Compost
Another great soil improver is good old home grown compost made up of all your rotting vegetable remains and organic matters. It’s one of the cheapest options and all you need to get started is a compost bin which you should be able to buy from your local council or online from a store such as Greenfingers (who tend to offer much more attractive ones if looks are important to you!)
3. Mushroom Compost
If you don’t want to make your own compost then you can always buy your own and one of the best for your soil is mushroom compost. You can buy this in small bags from your local garden centre but if you’ve got a reasonable sized garden I’d recommend buying online from someone like Garden Centre who offer large quantities direct to your door.
4. Composted Bark
Composted bark is another great soil improver which helps maintain to maintain moisture in the ground and can be applied all year round. Again you can buy this from garden centres but ordering online from places like Garden Centre can offer you better value for money and save your back too!
5. Pre-produced Soil Improvers
If you want to get the best soil improver that you possibly can then buying a pre-produced soil improver is a real option. I would recommend from buying from a known name such as Rolawn Direct to ensure this is a quality product.
